Save the Children Tournament Oct 09 040Following the Junior Save the Children Regional Finals last month it was the turn of the Avenue adults to compete in the south west regional finals at the Esporta Health Club in Oxford.

Barry Ramsden (pictured above) organized the local tournament in which Avenue ladies Emily Rossiter and Rhiannon Parsons went through as local ladies champions and Sally Clarke and Vinny Duddy went through to play in the mixed doubles tournament.

The Esporta Health Club, The Oxfordshire, is situated in the large playing fields of St Edwards School on the outskirts of Oxford.  The club had 4 indoor carpets courts which all of the Avenue players found great to play on.

Emily and Rhiannon came up against some very tough competition and with 3 wins out of 4 matches ended up in first place as Regional Champions and will now go forward to the national finals at the new LTA Headquarters in Roehampton on the 31st October 09.

The mixed doubles competition was played in a two box format with Sally and Vinny ending up 3rd in their box of 4 where the two teams above them ended up as eventual overall finalists in the competition.

The next major event at the tennis club will be the Junior Tennis Camp which will run throughout the next school holidays from 26th – 30th October; if you wish to book a place then please contact the office or visit the website (www.avenuetennis.com) for details and to download the application form.

The Avenue Tennis club will be running a Mixed Doubles Social Tournament in memory of one of its former members, Ron Hines on Sunday 18th October; all are welcome to attend with matches starting after 10:30.
