Avenue Tennis Club Head Coach, Vinny Duddy, organized a 3 day tennis coaching course for aspiring coaches of all ages and abilities. The first Nike Community Coaching course was attended by locals ranging from juniors aged 14 to one adult aged over 60 at the Avenue Tennis Club; if you are interested in attending this course in the future please contact Vinny at the Avenue Tennis Club (01278 782758).
The coaching course from Registro Profesional de Tenis (RPT) was run by Australian Tennis Coach Ian Ericksen on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The 3 day course is designed to introduce and teach tennis to children and how to develop their skills and interest in the game. It combines technical teaching with movement and co-ordination in a dynamic and fun environment and incorporates the successful Spanish teaching methods, which have helped produce players like Rafael Nadal, Carlos Moya and Juan Carlos Ferrero. The Nike Community Coach award is designed to help expand the base of tennis and introduce a wider range of children into the game from throughout the community – see www.rpteurope.com for more information.
Pictured on the course from the Avenue Tennis Club were Nick Arnold, Kerry Matthews, Kelly Anne Vennal, Richard Ballinger, Heather Duddy and Vinny Duddy, from Wellington Tennis Club were Lesley and Charlie Lee.
The next event at the tennis club is the Centenary Open Day which starts at 11:00 on Saturday 19th September. There will be FREE tennis coaching to all who attend and as at other Open Days there will be some other attractions for those not too interested in the tennis (eg Tony Pryce Sports, Prince Rackets, Lucozade Sports). Sarah Cole from music with mummy will be there with all the teddies for a very special Teddy Bear’s Picnic. The music with mummy sessions are designed for children aged under 5 years but all are welcome. Come along and join in for some singing, musical movement & percussion instruments. It is hoped that some other racket suppliers will participate and that we will have some other attractions. On Sunday the 20th Sep there will be a junior and adult tennis competition; anyone interested in playing please contact the office (01278 782758) – details can be obtained from the Avenue’s website – www.avenuetennis.com.
The following week is the Centenary Ball; the black tie event will have dancing to a DJ and local band Riverbrew in a Marquee set up at the tennis club and is now all sold out but if you have any queries about the event please contact Poo Jenkins from the Avenue Tennis Club.
