Despite the very cold and freezing conditions the Avenue Boxing Day Tournament 2008 went ahead and proved a huge success.  Due to there being less ladies than men, some of the men were chosen by youngster James Cameron (with some prompting from Head Coach, Vinny Duddy) to play in the tournament as ladies; Vinny would like to thank these guys as without them the tournament would not have been such a success.

Winners on the day were Avenue Tennis Trainee Coach, Craig Phillips for the men and Colin Christison for the ladies.  The highest point scoring lady was actually Pat Hunter (wife of Club Chairman Gordon Hunter).

The Avenue Tennis Club New Years Eve Party was an even bigger success with lots of new faces (especially families) visiting the club and enjoying a great night of entertainment at excellent value for money.  The evening was organised and run by the Club’s Bar Manager Lenny Cameron, ably assisted by various committee members.  A big vote of thanks to the Alison Stead, Annette Duddy, Julie Cameron and Simon Prior who produced the hot food on the evening and to the children who helped with the clearing up later on.

The next event at the club will be a Buffet and Bar Evening, on Saturday 14^th Feb and will mark the start of the Centenary Year Events.  The next Centenary Event will be on Saturday March 21^st and will be themed on St Patricks Night.  Further details and a diary of events planned are on the club’s website www.avenuetennis.co.uk.  If you have any photographs new or old of the Tennis Club or events held at the club then please let us have them so that we can show them during the Centenary year.  Photographs can be delivered to the club or emailed – details available from the office 01278 782758 speak to Craig or Vinny.

The Avenue Tennis Club is a friendly, family oriented organisation whose members enjoy excellent facilities with 8 floodlit courts and a large clubhouse including bar facilities.  Friday nights is family night where members and non members are encouraged to come down to either the adult coaching or club doubles match play.  Junior members enjoy free organised fun tennis sessions for up to school year 3 from 6:30pm till 7:30pm, school year 4 and upwards from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.  School year 7+ members have organised match-play from 8:00pm.  If you want any details about membership or other coaching courses which run throughout the week then please contact Head Coach, Vinny Duddy on 01278 782758.
