Vinny and Nathan introduce new website June 09

The Avenue Tennis Club announced the release of its new and improved website (www.avenuetennis.com). Head coach Vinny Duddy said “The site is much more professional and far easier to manage than our last one which had become a little outdated and difficult to administer. The site will keep current members informed of what’s going on at the club but more importantly show the whole community what the club has to offer them from a sporting and social perspective. The site will, in the future, provide some useful training and coaching tips to members and non members alike. “Of course we would love to welcome more players into the club, Vinny continued, “but equally we just want to help people get involved in tennis, stay active and keep fit and healthy”.

The website was made possible by club member Nathan Mc Gurl, owner of local web marketing company AsteraWeb. Nathan, with his eight year old son Jake, is also having coaching at the Avenue. “What Vinny and the team of coaches do here is fantastic” commented Nathan. “You’ve only got to see Barry and his mini tennis lessons for the kids on Saturday morning to see how much fun tennis can be. The old site was difficult to navigate and not particularly inviting. It is fitting that the club has a clean, useful website to celebrate their 100th Birthday!” Adult coaching is available on Thursday nights for intermediate players and players returning to or starting tennis can come down on a Friday evening for coaching and some fun.

The next major event at the Tennis Club will be the Annual Open Day on the 5th July, starting around 11:00 am. The day will be attended by Tony Pryce Sports, Prince Rackets Demonstration team and the Lucozade Sports Science Team. There will be free coaching and fun games for all the family, the bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks, food will be available together with Strawberries, Cream and Pimms which will be served during the Wimbledon Men’s Final which will be shown on large screen in the Tennis club.

The tennis club is also celebrating its Centenary Year and will be organizing a Centenary Open Day on Saturday 19th Sep and an Open Tournament on Sunday 20th Sep. The following weekend, 26th September, is the Centenary Ball; the black tie event will have dancing to a DJ and local band Riverbrew in a Marquee set up at the tennis club. Tickets are priced at £40 and will include a meal and a complimentary drink which can be obtained at the club.

The Avenue Tennis Club is a friendly, family oriented organisation whose members enjoy excellent facilities with 8 floodlit courts and a large clubhouse including bar facilities. Friday nights is family night where members and non members are encouraged to come down to either the adult coaching or club doubles match play. Junior members enjoy free organised fun tennis sessions for up to school year 3 from 6:30pm till 7:30pm, school year 4 and upwards from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. School year 7+ members have organised match-play from 8:00pm. If you want any details about membership or other coaching courses which run throughout the week then please contact Head Coach, Vinny Duddy on 01278 782758 – www.avenuetennis.co.uk.
