Avenue Tennis Club Head Coach, Vinny Duddy and Craig Phillips visited Churchfields Infants School in Highbridge and spent the whole week going through some tennis skills and games with all 16 classes at the school from reception up to year 6.  Duddy said we had a great time at the school with some of the teachers and nearly all of the kids showing a real interest in the sport; we just need to get the parents to bring the kids down to the tennis club and get them onto one of the many training squads that run during the week and weekend.  Following requests from the teaching staff the coaches will be running a FREE tennis session, at the tennis club,  for the teaching staff on Thursday 28^th jun. Following the Avenue Coaches pre Wimbledon visits to the town’s junior schools they are starting a NEW TENNIS TOTS coaching session for 4 to 5 year olds on a Saturday morning from 10:00 till 11:00 am.  Head Coach, Duddy said that during their visits to the schools and discussions with the teachers he was surprised to learn how little time was spent on sporting skills with this age group.  He said that he thought that this fun tennis session would teach the kids some basics through fun games, racket/ ball and coordination exercises that would improve their sporting capabilities for tennis and a lots of other sports whilst trying to encourage their parents to join in.

With Wimbledon on the horizon and the interest it creates Duddy was also keen to remind everyone that there were qualified LTA coaches providing coaching for all ages and standards, juniors and adults at the Avenue Tennis Club during week day evenings and on Saturdays.     Details of the events and tennis coaching courses held at the Avenue Tennis Club can be obtained from the office (01278 782758) or from the club website (www.avenuetennis.com).

The Avenue Tennis Club Open Day will be held on Sunday 8^th July from 11:00 till 1:00 pm; all are welcome to attend this FREE event – all you needs is loads and loads of enthusiasm – all equipment will be provided.
