Burnham Infants Visit the Avenue Tennis Club Again

Budding tennis players from Burnham Infants, Class 4 – Year Group 1 walked to the Avenue Tennis Club from school for a morning of tennis with Avenue Head Coach Vinny Duddy and Craig Phillips. The 33 youngsters were brought to the club with their teachers and parents ( Mrs Westlake, Mrs Mcardle, Mrs Garret, Mrs Blyth, Mrs Lacey, Mrs Longley and Miss Chamberlain)and according to Duddy had a great morning of tennis fun and games. Duddy reminded the kids that as well a specific tennis coaching every night of the weeks for juniors that they were invited to come along to Vinny’s Minis on Friday night with their parents to see whether they would like to get more involved in tennis.
The club is due to have its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 23rd May from 7:00pm in the club house; all members and anyone wanting to get involved in the tennis club are invited to come along and hear how the club has done financially, socially and on court and are offered the opportunity to express their views or to get involved in running the club as volunteer committee members; after the meeting there will be a Happy Half Hour at the bar.
The Road to Wimbledon event for under 14’s (girls and boys) will be held at the club on Saturday 26th May; contact Barry Ramsden at the club for details. The Avenue Tennis Club is also the venue for the Somerset Closed where players (ladies and men) from all over Somerset will be competing to be crowned the Somerset Champions at singles and doubles. The tournament runs from 14th to 17th June and free to all visitors to watch as there will be some great tennis; finals day is the 17th; timings available from the club.
A junior holiday tennis club will also be held, at the Avenue Tennis Club, on 6th till 8th Jun from 9:00 to 4:00pm where LTA qualified and licensed coaches will teach tennis through some fun games, drills and matches; contact the club for details (01278 782758) or see the website www.avenuetennis.com.
The club run a variety of Adult social play sessions during the week on Wed and Fri evenings or Tue, Thur and Sund Morning. Coaching is available for juniors every night of the week and for adults on Thu, Fri and Saturday afternoons. If you would like to private 1 to 1 coaching this can be organised throught the clubs coaches.
