Coming up over the Xmas period will be the Junior Xmas Disco and Party (17^th Dec), Chairman’s Mince Pies (19^th Dec), Boxing Day Social Tennis Tournament (26^th Dec) and the New Years Eve Family Disco (31^st Dec) – details can be obtained from the club’s website (www.avenuetennis.com) or ring on 782758.

A NEW MEMBERSHIP offer is available to all new members joining during November – 5 MONTHS FOR THE PRICE OF 3 (so juniors under 10 will be charged £7.50 until the end of March, over 10’s £11.25, Adults £50, Families £90).  This means that the children will have access to Vinny’s Minis on a Friday night where for 2 hours Head Coach and trainee coach Nick Arnold provide organised and safe tennis and coordination games from 6:30 to 7:30 (up to year group 3) and 7:30 to 8:30 year group 4 to 6.  From 8:00 pm courts 2, 3 and 4 are allocated to the junior members over 11 who play in a doubles monthly medal tournament.

The tennis club will be running its annual Family Xmas Lunch on Sunday 5^th Dec from 12:30; all are welcome and should put their names up on the list in the clubhouse foyer or contact Poo Jenkins to confirm their attendance.  A full Xmas lunch is provided with the price to adults being £10 and juniors under 10 £7, the bar is open and good time is normally had by all.  Chairman’s Mince Pies will be served on Sunday 19^th Dec from 12:00; if you are in the area why not pop in and see what’s going on at the Avenue Tennis Club.

The Avenue Tennis Club is a friendly, family oriented organisation whose members enjoy excellent facilities with 8 floodlit courts and a large clubhouse including bar facilities.  Friday nights is family night where members and non members are encouraged to come down to either the adult coaching or club doubles match play.  Junior members enjoy free organised fun tennis sessions for up to school year 3 from 6:30pm till 7:30pm, school year 4 and upwards from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.  School year 7+ members have organised match-play from 8:00pm.  If you want any details about membership or other coaching courses which run throughout the week then please contact Head Coach, Vinny Duddy on 01278 782758.

On Saturday 26^th September the Avenue Tennis Club celebrated its hundredth year with a special Centenary Ball held on No 2 tennis court under a large marquee.  The ball was attended by around 205 members, ex members, old and new friends of the club and was a huge success. 

Special guest speaker John Feaver (ex British Davis Cup player and great nephew of one of the founder members) reminded the attendees of the club’s origins and congratulated the current committee on its current stewardship and strategy to involve more families and encourage tennis throughout the local community.  Ex Davis Cup Squad  and Wimbledon player Lee Childs, a former Somerset and Avenue Tournament player, was also in attendance with, to name but a few, Somerset LTA President, Basil Mann and Somerset LTA Chairman Ken Johnson, together with a number of past presidents, chairmen and captains of the club.
