Cleo Stead – Work experience
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 10:48Wimbledon work experience.
Cleo Stead, from King Alfred’s Secondary School, spent her work experience week at the Avenue Tennis Club, helping out with coaching and admin duties and assisting Head Coach Vinny Duddy.
Her week began on Monday 22nd of June and as with all Wimbledon weeks we had some rain but we also had some really fantastic weather.
Cleo said “It was great to see how the club functions behind the scenes: it isn’t until you see how much work goes into it that you stop taking it for granted. Cleo was hoping to experience work in a field that interests her, Cleo chose the Avenue Tennis Club as she enjoys the game and has been taking lessons with Bob Lidgey.
Vinny said “Cleo’s computer skills were very impressive and she worked well at the schools that she attended with us. One of her tasks was to critically review the new website – this led to a meeting with Web site designer Nathan Mc Gurl who took on board Cleo’s comments and is now in the process of amending the site to make it more appealing to the younger members in the club – www.avenuetennis.com.
The next major event at the Tennis Club will be the Annual Open Day on the 5th July, starting around 11:00 am. The day will be attended by Tony Pryce Sports, Prince Rackets Demonstration team and the Lucozade Sports Science Team. There will be free coaching and fun games for all the family, the bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks, food will be available together with Strawberries, Cream and Pimms which will be served during the Wimbledon Men’s Final which will be shown on large screen in the Tennis club.
The tennis club is also celebrating its Centenary Year and will be organizing a Centenary Open Day on Saturday 19th Sep and an Open Tournament on Sunday 20th Sep. The following weekend, 26th September, is the Centenary Ball; the black tie event will have dancing to a DJ and local band Riverbrew in a Marquee set up at the tennis club. Tickets are priced at £40 and will include a meal and a complimentary drink which can be obtained at the club.
