vinny aAvenue Tennis Club Head Coach 2010 Challenge

Head Coach  Vinny Duddy issued a challenge to the members of the Avenue Tennis Club in a recent e mail to the club’s membership – excert is as follows  “I’m sure like me, you have made a New Year’s Resolution to improve your fitness, reduce your weight, cut down on this and that, etc, etc, etc………. Why not get more involved with tennis either through coaching or through the social play we have here at the club.  I am sure that we all have a friend that has said they would like to take up tennis but are a little overawed at coming along and getting started – I would like to challenge all our adult members to try and persuade a new player down to the club.  All new players are allowed to come along with a current member up to 3 times before they are expected to join, normally there is a visitors fee of £5 to play but the Committee have agreed to waive this charge for January and February 2010 so please try and bring someone new along with you and let’s see if we can get them involved and playing tennis”.

Vinny also reminded the members that they had the best facilities in the county and that they should therefore encourage friends and family along to the club to take up tennis as it is a sport that anyone can play together no matter how old or what standard they are.

The club is really trying to encourage more families to get involved in tennis and with the full use of 8 courts, have set aside Friday evenings to cater for all the family.  There is adult coaching from 6:30 till 8:00 pm, junior match play from 8:00 till 9:45, social adult mixed doubles from 6:30 till 9:45 and organised fun junior sessions for up to year group 3 from 6:30 till 7:30 and year 4 plus from 7:30 till 8:30 (Vinny’s Minis) – come on down and try us out.

The club is also keen to encourage social membership where non players can take advantage of its well stocked bar and organised functions/parties.  The first social event of the New Year 2010 will be a Rabbie Burns night which will be held at the Tennis Club on Saturday 30th January.  For those that do not like Haggis there will be a lovely Scottish Stew.  The three course Scottish meal will cost adults £7.50 and children £3.50; bookings can be made on the listing in the clubhouse foyer notice board.  Members who want to receive this information by e mail should let Vinny or Craig have their current e mail addresses.

Details of these events and tennis coaching courses held at the Avenue Tennis Club can be obtained from the office (01278 782758) or from the club website (www.avenuetennis.com
