- Avenue Adults receive doubles coaching from Mark Tennant
As part of their Continual Professional Development, Head Coach Vinny Duddy and Performance Coach Jamie Allen received some further training from Mark Tenant of Inspire2Coach. The training was geared around managing a group of adult players of varying standards and focused on doubles tactics. Vinny wanted to thank the adults who gave up their time to come and help him and Jamie. The day was a great success with all of the adults taking some excellent tips from Mark and Vinny and Jamie getting some new and fresh ideas to take to their sessions.
Mark is the Director of Inspire2coach limited, based at the University of Warwick Tennis Centre. The company manages 5 clubs and community parks programmes, as well as delivering training for coaches in the UK and abroad. Mark runs a project run by Somerset Lawn Tennis Association to assist Somerset coaches with a specialised mentoring programme to help coaches to develop their skills.
The next major event at the Tennis Club will be the Annual Open Day on the 5th July, starting around 11:00 am. The day will be attended by Tony Pryce Sports, Prince Rackets Demonstration team and the Lucozade Sports Science Team. There will be free coaching and fun games for all the family, the bar will be open serving hot and cold drinks, food will be available together with Strawberries, Cream and Pimms which will be served during the Wimbledon Men’s Final which will be shown on large screen in the Tennis club.
The tennis club is also celebrating its Centenary Year and will be organizing a Centenary Open Day on Saturday 19th Sep and an Open Tournament on Sunday 20th Sep. The following weekend, 26th September, is the Centenary Ball; the black tie event will have dancing to a DJ and local band Riverbrew in a Marquee set up at the tennis club. Tickets are priced at £40 and will include a meal and a complimentary drink which can be obtained at the club.
