With a turnout of over 20 people playing the tournament over 5 of the 8 tennis courts at the club, fantastic weather and an Open Day taking place Avenue Tennis Coach Vinny Duddy said the club was buzzing, with loads of kids, parents and players at the club led to it being a great day. This fun mixed social doubles competition, which has been running for over a year now, is run by Ian Howard who also produces some fabulous hand crafted wood turnings, as prizes, for the winners. Although there is no entry fee, a donation is generally given by the players and this is forwarded to a local cancer charity. The event is run every second Sunday of the calender month and is open to all who wish to attend, play some tennis and meet some new people – the next one is Sunday 11th Aug from 10 till 12 ish.

The Avenue Tennis Club also try to encourage new members and players down to the club on a Friday night from aound 6. Friday night at the Avenue Tennis Club is a family night. With Vinny’s Minis, where the kids can join in a tennis themed fun skills, drills and games with him and their parents can get involved in the social doubles play or take part in the pay and play session. At a cost of £2 with all equipment provided along with a coach who will get you started, give you some tips or just let you get on with it in your own time. The bar is normally open from around 7:30 to refresh yourself after a nice game of tennis or just watching the kids have fun on court.

The tennis club has a month’s free membership offer available for anyone who wants to give tennis a go and wants to get an insight into the club before joining. Qualified coaches provide coaching throughout the week for all ages and abilities. Membership of the club allows you access to play on 1 of the 8 floodlit courts (4 Astra turfed and 4 Tarmacadan), together with access to a fantastic clubhouse with a well stocked bar, wi-fi and superb changing facilities for all; details of all the other benefits of joining the club can be found on the website www,

 The club has organised social and competitive tennis throughout the week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, together with a variety of subsidised coaching sessions for juniors and adults and Vinny Minis on a Friday evening – free to junior members, ladies and men’s teams that compete in the North Somerset Tennis Leagues. As well as tennis the club runs a number of other social events B-B-Q’s, Wednesday evening suppers and a variety of other lunches and events. Avenue Tennis Club – more than just a tennis club.
