Code of Conduct
Avenue Tennis Club Etiquette
- No foul language or spitting on court, or within the confines of the Tennis Club. Remember there are often young people about.
- Players/supporters to make sure they clear away any litter at the end of a set or match, and clear glasses and litter from the veranda area and tables.
- Players should always shake opponents’ hands at end of match.
- No racket or ball abuse is acceptable.
- Men should give ladies precedence at the net when changing ends.
- In case of line disputes a LET should be played.
- Spectators should not be permitted to intervene on line calls.
- No glass or alcohol to be taken onto the courts.
- New members will receive a copy of the Code of Conduct with their membership application forms.
10. When a ball goes on to an adjacent court, players should wait till the ball is returned by the players on that court, or retrieve it at a break in actual play (eg. End of the game).
11. When accessing the Clubhouse from the Grove entrance members and guests should try and avoid walking in the players’ line of sight, when the player in the far court is serving or playing a shot, particularly when league matches or tournaments are being played.
12. Smoking is not allowed on court or anywhere in the Clubhouse.
13. Spectators are not allowed on the courts.
14. Court priority
- Only juniors nominated by the Head Coach are permitted to join in with the Club adult sessions, and even then, once juniors have completed their set, any adults waiting for a game should have priority over juniors.
- Waiting adults should have priority on a “first-come, first-served” basis i.e. when an adult turns up at the club for a game, those adults already waiting (even if they have already played) should receive priority.
- In club adult social sessions Mixed Doubles have precedence over other types of games.
15. On court
- Suitable footwear for tennis must be worn at all times on all courts.
- Males must wear shirts, or other suitable covering, above the waist, when on court or in public areas of the clubhouse.
