The Avenue Tennis Club runs a variety of competitions from the Somerset Open Junior and Adults LTA Grade 3 Tournaments during Aug to internally organised social Sunday competitions. We try to cater for everyones needs and each of the various tournaments are detailed above.
DURING 2010 INCREASED PRIZE MONEY IS BEING INVESTED BY THE AVENUE TENNIS CLUB AND FROM SPONSORS – BURNHAM ON SEA HOLIDAY VILLAGE IN THE SOMERSET OPEN IN, A BID TO INCREASE AND IMPROVE THE STANDARDS OF THE COMPETION as follows
Mens Open Singles Winner £250, Runner Up £100, 3rd and 4th £25
Ladies Open Singles Winner £150, Runner Up £75, 3rd and 4th £25
Mens, Ladies and Mixed Doubles Winners £100 with runners up @ £50
Increases have also been made in the Handicap and Veterans tournaments.
THE SOMERSET CLOSED 2010 SPONSORED BY INTERSPORT TONY PRYCE HAS BEEN MOVED AWAY FROM THE SOMERSET OPEN DATES AND WILL NOW BE PLAYED OVER TWO WEEKENDS IN JUNE (5TH&6TH AND 26TH&27TH) WITH THE LADIES AND MENS FINALS BEING COMPLETED ON SUNDAY 4TH JULY DURING THE AVENUES OPEN DAY –
Somerset Mens Closed Finalist – £200 with Runner Up at £75
Somerset Ladies Closed Finalist – £150 with Runner Up at £50
League Tennis
Each year Avenue LTC takes part in the North Somerset League, playing fixtures home and away across this section of the county (this area stretches to Minehead, Glastonbury/Wells, Nailsea and Backwell). If you wish to play, sign up on the club noticeboard now or see Vinny or Craig in the office and they will let the Captains know of your interest.
We run 5 men’s and 4 ladies’ Summer League teams to cater to encourage wide club participation. If you would like to play for a team, please contact either the Men’s or Ladies’ Captain (see Committee link) .We also take part in Winter League in which teams play a ladies’ doubles, a men’s doubles and a mixed doubles to complete the fixture.
Match fees are £2 adults and free for participating juniors. This is payable for all matches home and away and helps us cover the season’s costs for balls and lights (where needed).
Club subscriptions must be paid before you take part in League – this is a North Somerset League rule.
