Somerset Closed Tennis Tournament Jun 2010
Wednesday, March 3, 2010 11:54Avenue Tennis Club, in Burnham on Sea will be hosting the Somerset Closed Tennis Championships during the weekends of 5th and 6th June (Prelim Rounds) and 26th and 27th Jun (Quarter and Semi Finals) with the Men’s and Ladies Finals being played on Wimbledon Men’s Finals Day 4th July 2010.
Head Coach, Vinny Duddy said the tournament used to be run during the Avenue’s Somerset Senior Open in mid August, during the day but was poorly attended due to people’s work commitments so it was decided to run over the weekends with a view to giving more players the opportunity to become Somerset Champion. As the event will be run before the County Cup it will also give more players the opporutnity to get themselves noticed by the County Captains. Intersport Tony Pryce Sports Shops have been great in their support of this event and have provided some sponsorship monies that will make the event a little more more enticing. Details and entry forms can be obtained from the Avenue’s website – www.avenuetennis.com.
“Intersport Tony Pryce, Marketing Director, Kevin Snell commented that he was really happy with his company’s collaboration with the Avenue Tennis Club to ensure that the Somerset Closed Competition was given some professional help to ensure the competition was made available to more of Somerset’s Tennis Players. By assisting the tournaments organisers to run and market the event over the two weekends of the 5/6th and 26/27th of June and Final’s being played during the Avenue Open Day on July 4th, it is hoped the event reaches out and attracts a wider audience. Intersport Tony Pryce shops are situated throughout Somerset and are probably the only supplier of all the main tennis brands (Prince, Babolat, Wilson, Head and Yonex). With a full racket restringing service and demo racket programme in store and days at nearly all local tennis clubs in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall they are fully committed to the sport
