The Saints (St Joseph’s, St John’s and St Andrew’s) visited the Avenue Tennis Club on Thursday 16th October 08 to participate in a Tennis Festival, organised by Sarah Musset of Kings Alfreds, for the Burnham on Sea Junior Schools and managed by Avenue tennis coaches Vinny Duddy, Barry Ramsden and Craig Phillips.
St Joseph’s won the event with a total point’s score of 50, with St John’s coming second on 42 and St Andrews 3rd with 36. Head Coach, Vinny Duddy presented the trophy to the winning school during assembly (pictured below), unfortunately not all the participants were available.
The festival was organised for children who had not really played tennis before and had not visited the Avenue Tennis Club. Mr Mark Fisher, the school’s PE coordinator was very pleased with the efforts of his school’s pupils who worked really hard during the training in the morning and competed well in the afternoon.
The cup will be played for again in early 2009 when it is hoped more of the junior schools will attend the Tennis Club to participate in the competition.
The next Avenue Tennis Club Sunday Mixed Doubles Social Tournament will be held on Sunday 7th December at 11:00, non members are welcome to come along and play although priority will be given to members. The Avenue Xmas Dinner will also be held on the 7th Dec and will start at 13:30 in the afternoon, £12 for Adults and £6 for children.
Details of the Avenue Tennis Club New Years Eve Bash can be obtained from the office (01278 782758), commencing at 7:30pm till late, disco and food, £10 for adults, children go free.
The Avenue Tennis Club is a friendly, family oriented organisation whose members enjoy excellent facilities with 8 floodlit courts and a large clubhouse including bar facilities. Friday nights is family night where members and non members are encouraged to come down to either the adult coaching or club doubles match play. Junior members enjoy free organised fun tennis sessions for up to school year 3 from 6:30pm till 7:30pm, school year 4 and upwards from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. School year 7+ members have organised match-play from 8:00pm.
