Tennis Ladder
AVENUE TENNIS CLUB SINGLES TENNIS LADDER RULES
This tennis ladder has been introduced to provide members with an opportunity to meet new players and play competitive yet friendly games of tennis. It is likely to take a little while for sensible rankings on the ladder to be established; in the first instance Vinny and Craig have set up the ladder positions – prove us wrong if you don’t agree!!!!. New members wishing to join the ladder will be placed at the bottom of the ladder.
Each player must provide a telephone number and where possible an email address where he/she can be reached for setting dates for matches – these will be on the reverse of the ladder tags.
Please use the following rules with a degree of flexibility and good humour. Remember, it’s only a game!
- Only fully paid members of the club may participate in the ladder.
- You should be a member of British Tennis
- You can challenge players who are up to a maximum of 5 places higher than you on the ladder.
- Once a challenge has been set no other challenge can be taken on until the match has been cancelled, forfeited, or played and the ladder updated.
- If the challenger wins the match, the challenger moves to his opponent’s position on the ladder and the loser moves to the challenger’s position on the ladder.
- The date and time of any match should be mutually convenient for both players. A challenged player must respond in person (no e mails, no voice mails, you must talk to each other!!) to a challenge within 7 days after being challenged and a match must be set up within 14 days of the challenge.
- If any player fails to turn up for an arranged match the other player wins by default. The first set will be forfeited if the player is up to half an hour late; any later than this then the match is forfeit and the player who made it to match is deemed to have won.
- Matches must be played to best of 3 sets (tie breaks of 7at 6- 6) or the third set can be a championship tie break. Score format should be agreed at the BEGINNING of the match..
- If a player makes a challenge and loses the match, the player must wait 14 days before re-challenging the same player.
- New players wishing to join the ladder should do so by emailing Vinny (avenuetennisheadcoach@live.co.uk or Craig (avenuetennistraineecoach@live.co.uk)
- Any player forfeiting twice will automatically drop to the lowest position on the ladder.
- The challenger is responsible for checking court availability and booking the court.
- The challenger is to provide a tin of 4 NEW balls.
- Any problems please try and sort them out between you. If this cannot be done then Craig or Vinny will assist and if required will make a decision which will be final.
