Work Experience – Rhiannon Parsons
Rhiannon Parsons, a student at King Alfred’s school, spent her work experience week at the Avenue tennis club, helping with coaching at East Huntspill and Lympsham junior schools as well as doing some other admin duties in the office.
Her week began on Sunday the 5th of July when she helped out Coach Emily Rossiter with the orange juniors during the Avenue’s very successful Open Day.
Rhiannon said “It was interesting to get an insight into how the club functions in the background as I normally just turn up to play, train or assist with the coaching. I didn’t realise how much paper work and other jobs that were needed to be done! Its great to see how much work goes on to make the club how it is and how much encouragement goes in to introduce new members. I expected to play a bit more tennis during my work experience week, but instead I got to visit a couple of primary schools. There was so much enthusiasm that the children put into the tennis lesson and it was great to see how much they enjoyed it. There were other tasks, for example, reviewing the new avenue tennis website (ww.avenuetennis.com) and update all the membership details. I hope to take tennis on further and make a career out of playing.”
Head coach, Vinny Duddy, said Rhiannon came into work with a smile and worked really hard, I am sure that whatever she decides to take up as a career she will succeed in – let’s hope it is Tennis Coaching.
The next event at the tennis club is the School Summer Holiday Junior Tennis Camp which will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm during weekdays 23rd July – 7th Aug. If you would like any further information please contact Vinny on 01278 782758 or visit the website www.avenuetennis.com.
The tennis club is celebrating its Centenary Year and will be organizing a Centenary Open Day on Saturday 19th Sep and an Open Tournament on Sunday 20th Sep. The following weekend, 26th September, is the Centenary Ball; the black tie event will have dancing to a DJ and local band Riverbrew in a Marquee set up at the tennis club. Tickets can be obtained at the club and are priced at £40 and will include a meal and a complimentary drink.
